SEBI Extends Digital Accessibility Audit and Remediation Deadline to October 31, 2026
SEBI has extended the timeline for regulated entities to complete digital accessibility audits and remediate findings from those audits.
In a circular issued on July 31, 2026, SEBI extended the timeline for the conduct of accessibility audits for digital platforms and remediation of findings from the audit until October 31, 2026.
The extension comes after SEBI received representations from regulated entities requesting additional time to comply with the digital accessibility requirements.
What does this mean for regulated entities?
The extension provides additional time to complete accessibility audits, address the findings identified during those audits, and validate the fixes.
However, this is important: the extension does not change the underlying accessibility requirements. SEBI has specifically stated that all other provisions of the earlier digital accessibility circulars remain unchanged and must continue to be complied with.
Organisations that have already started their accessibility work should use this additional time to:
- Complete their accessibility audits.
- Prioritise and remediate identified accessibility issues.
- Conduct validation after remediation.
- Document the work completed and remaining issues.
- Prepare the necessary accessibility conformance documentation.
For organizations that have not yet completed their accessibility audit, this is a good opportunity to get started rather than wait until the new deadline.
Use the additional time wisely
Accessibility is not something that should be addressed just before a deadline. An audit is only the first step. Organizations need sufficient time to understand the findings, work with development teams, remediate issues, and validate the fixes.
The new deadline of October 31, 2026 gives regulated entities additional time to complete this process properly.
At DigitalA11Y, we recommend using this extension to move beyond simply completing an audit and focus on building a more accessible digital experience for everyone.
The deadline has moved, but the accessibility requirements remain.
If your organization needs help with accessibility audits, remediation, validation, or VPAT/ACR documentation, feel free to reach out to us.
Don’t wait until October to get started.
