DigitalA11Y is a digital accessibility information hub, we try to keep our content fresh & updated all the time. To achieve this goal from time to time we hire interns & temporary staff to perform various activities on the website like content editing, social media strategy, content marketing, code upgradation & other tasks

Our goal is to achieve WCAG 2.1 compliance on the website, so time to time we also bring in other accessibility audit specialists to perform testing & give us feedback if the content is meeting with accessibility guidelines.

As a Web Accessibility Specialist you will ideally have a few years of experience in manual web accessibility audits, automated accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies. You will lead all testing and audit activities and will be responsible for setting test processes and contributing to developing training materials and methodology for new recruits.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct annual fully automated and manual audits of a representative sampling from office and school sites to ensure the websites for Client are in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
  • Establish communication and monitor implementation of corrective actions based on audit findings.
  • Suggest necessary support procedures and training documentation.
  • Collaborate with web developers on WCAG compliant designs.
  • Develop and maintain standard templates for testing applications for WCAG compliance.
  • Create and execute WCAG test plans and test scenarios of new products and upgrades to existing products.
  • Record problems/defects identified during testing. Retest problems after they are resolved by the development team. Communicate the status of testing, including reporting of overall test results.
  • May create/maintain automated test scripts.
  • Maintain updated resource materials for ongoing WCAG Compliance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in manual and automation testing.
  • Experience and knowledge of WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards is a requirement for the Quality Assurance Tester

Skills:

  • Thorough working knowledge of how to make web content and applications compliant with WCAG 2.0 Level AA Standards
  • Ability to identify and suggest potential solutions to deliver accessible content on web and mobile devices
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies, regulations and standards (Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment and Section 504)
  • Extensive knowledge of manual and automated quality assurance testing
  • Working knowledge of HTML / CSS / Javascript / AJAX / ARIA
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and alone
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to gather resources and information needed to understand content and options
  • Ability to utilize assistive technologies such as screen readers and close captioning
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, methods and techniques of universal design standards
  • Ability to utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities

Definition:

The Web Accessibility Specialist is responsible for identifying issues through quality assurance testing and suggesting potential solutions for accessibility barriers based on the WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards as well as compliance with the ADA, Section 508, and other accessibility related laws.
Contributes to efforts aimed at delivering accessible websites, applications and content by conducting quality assurance evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience with software testing.
  • Experience working with and/or developing web content that achieves Priority 2 or Level AA conformance as prescribed by the W3C, (WCAG 2.0) while also complying with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. Extensive knowledge of web communication accessibility barriers.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers, internet technologies, and Microsoft Office suite of tools including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project. Knowledge of programming concepts. Knowledge of full system development life cycle preferred.
  • Skill in the management and execution of test cases to ensure appropriate coverage of the system’s functionality. Strong diagnostic, testing and problem-solving skills. Strong analytical, communication, and team skills. Ability to communicate to a wide range of project stakeholders e.g. Executives, Managers, Designers, Developers, and Administrators.
